Introducing Dada Dunia (Sisters of the World)

Dada = Sister, Dunia = World

Sisters of the World

We are excited to feature Dada Dunia, a community organization founded by our Slayer alumn, Jayne Akinyi, who you may remember as our Sunshine Slayer! Jayne literally has a world of experience - from growing up in Kenya, starting her work journey in hospitality, then living in the UK and getting her master's in Film Practice, to working in China as a language instructor, then immigrating to Canada - and she credits each of those experiences, lessons, cultures and people with helping her connect to her ancestral roots as an adult. Inspired by her entrepreneurial mother and the sisterhood and community at Admin Slayer, Jayne began to dream up an organization that could connect African women to sustainable jobs with international clients. From that dream Dada Dunia was born.

“It was the support I received from the women and community back in 2021 that pushed me further to hone in on my goal of helping women from developing countries and especially in Africa. After immigrating to Canada, I felt a deep understanding of what it means to be an African woman with this rare opportunity to build something that can connect, empower and enlighten my fellow sisters.”

Dada Dunia aims to bridge the gap between women who have the skills and desire to work as virtual assistants and the businesses and individuals who need their services. By providing training, community and mentorship, Dada Dunia ensures that the VA's are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their tasks effectively. Dada Dunia works with clients who share Jayne’s values in supporting and making an impact on these women and their developing communities.

"Connecting women from North America with those in developing countries through mentorship has the potential to change the trajectory of these women's lives and give them access to tools and information they would never have had otherwise."

Jayne envisions Dada Dunia to be Africa's leading employer, offering meaningful jobs that provide well deserved compensation, a focus on work-life balance and a foundation of sisterhood and support. Within the next couple of years, Jayne envisions building physical locations in Africa with coworking spaces for those who don't have access to equipment like laptops or who don't have a dedicated office workspace at home. It will become a space where women can connect with other Dadas, and her international mentors can connect in person with their mentees.

In its current growth stage, Dada Dunia is seeking individuals and businesses inspired to support the young business’s development through networking, client referrals, media spotlights and professionals interested in becoming mentors.

“Building a network of partnerships and collaborations is at the heart of Dada Dunia’s mission. We are a sisterhood, not just in the people we serve, but in our business at its foundation.”

Dada Dunia is committed to building a community of women who support each other and work together to achieve their goals. The organization recognizes that women in developing countries face unique challenges, and it strives to create an environment where they feel valued and empowered. By supporting these women through training and job opportunities, Jayne hopes to create a ripple effect that will positively impact the lives of the women it serves and their communities.

Consider reaching out to Jayne if you feel called to support Dada Dunia. Together, we can help create a better future for women in Africa.
