...of Carla

6:00 am Hubby heads off to work; I curl up with the cats and go back to sleep. YAWN.

7:30 am Wake up call! A zombie is knocking on my door.. Oh, wait. It’s my 16 year old.

7:45 am  Kickstart the morning with bulletproof COFFEE. Time to take on the day!

8:05 am Pile into the car and drive the teenager to school. She’s still half asleep so it’s a pretty quiet ride.

8:25 am Start thinking about dinner and text for input from the family.

8:30 am Head off for some grocery shopping. This usually involves a few different store visits to find everything on the list.

10:30 am Home to unpack groceries and make another coffee. If the weather is nice I may sit outside on the front porch and enjoy a bit of quiet while I drink it.

11:00 am Log in to check email for my volunteer position with the Canadian Police Family Alliance. I manage volunteer applications, interviews and onboarding.

11:15 am Time to log in and check on Slack for any new messages & client updates.

11:30 am Log into Gmail for Client A. Open up the joint Google calendar and take a deep breath before opening up Asana to see what tasks the day holds. I am one on a team of two supporting this client. We book calls, virtual and in-person meetings with her clients around the world. Most of her clients are in different time zones, which can take quite a bit of mental focus to fit into her schedule. I’m thankful for the World Clock Meeting Timer to help ensure that I have all time zones correct.

12:30 pm Reminder goes off - time to eat something. Feels like an omelette kind of day!

12:55 pm It’s a bit quiet here in my office space, so I turn on Spotify and pull up my work tunes playlist.

1:00 pm Log into Client B’s GoDaddy email, open up her Google calendar and Hubspot. Follow up on any new emails since my teammate checked in this morning. I also help manage her calendar and schedule calls and meetings, both in-person and virtually.

1:20 pm Log back into Client A’s email and follow up on any new tasks or emails. This is typically when new requests for help with updating documents, creating graphics and designing brochures come in. I reach out via phone to clarify details before getting started.

3:00 pm It’s newsletter editing day for Client C, a travel agent. He emails a draft of his newsletter, I read through, verify the information is correct, update any spelling/grammar errors, find links to include if they exist and then notify my proofreading Slayer that it’s ready for her final read through. Next I spend some time looking through  photos on Pixabay that can be used once I enter the newsletter into Mailchimp.

3:30 pm I receive a text from the teenager; she is ready for pick up from school. No work or after school groups to attend today, so it’s home to get started on homework.

3:45 pm Log into Buffer for Client C and create social media posts to be posted on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram over the next five days, along with curating photos to use on Instagram.

4:15 pm Sign out of work for the day and check on personal email.

4:30 pm Get started on dinner, without any input from the rest of the family. I like making dinner much better when it’s my choice anyway. Cheesy Chicken Bake is on the menu!

5:30 pm Pack up and head out for an hour drive to band practice as a volunteer, civilian drummer with 8 Wing Pipes & Drums.  Stop by Starbucks for a bit of a caffeine boost on the way.

6:30 pm Arrive in Trenton and catch up with other band members before practice starts (it really should be called rehearsal, as practice needs to be done at home). If it’s the spring, we are usually starting to prep for the upcoming competition season in Ontario.

8:30 pm Time to head home. Music on, car in drive! The highway at this time of night is wide open, so it’s a fairly easy drive.

9:30 pm Home to catch up on the day with my hubby.

10:00 pm Hubby heads to bed and I put on a tv show to watch with my daughter. We are currently enjoying all of the different UK Ambulance/Paramedic shows on Prime Video as well as shows on Netflix and Disney+. Checking on personal social media accounts usually happens at this time too.

11:30 pm Say goodnight to the teenager (I think she may be part vampire too) and head to bed.
