HAPPY DECEMBER!!!
We know that time and calendars are just human constructs - especially this year - but it’s kind of exciting to know that we’ll be done with 2020 pretty soon.
There was a lot about this year that was confusing and ambiguous. There were a lot of wounds that were opened, poor infrastructure revealed, and communications garbled. There’s so much that is still like that, even as we say “SEE YA” to this calendar year.
The future does feel mildly hopeful right now for some of us. It might be the news about vaccines, fiscal stimulus, and the holiday season that’s bumping up some people’s moods.
For others, it’s still not an easy time. Some people have lost their jobs, their businesses, their loved ones. Some people have spent a lot of this year entirely alone, or with others but… still kind of alone, which makes the holiday season even harder.
As we close out this very tough year and look ahead to what may be a brighter but still difficult 12 months in 2021, we invite you to stop for a second and take a breath.
You don’t have to close this year out or start next year by knocking it out of the park. The park isn’t there anymore and no one knows what “it” is in anyway. Besides, the stands are empty. No one’s watching.
This year has been so extraordinarily taxing on the entire world. The biggest gift you can give yourself and others is to just lower that bar. You don’t have to make this year’s “The. Best. Holiday. Ever.” You don’t have to work even harder to prove that your business is still a going concern. Nah. You made it this far - however far that was. You won this year - no matter what you did. Why do we think that?
Because you’re still here. Sometimes, survival is the definition of winning. As 2020 comes to a close, that’s exactly what we believe.
So, congratulations on winning 2020. We are genuinely impressed with you for the fact that you just keep showing up.
As our gift to you, we’re delighted to share some incredible wisdom and hope from some people we really, really like. Amazing entrepreneurs and professionals with whom we’ve crossed paths, shared stages, and collaborated with have come together to give you a pile of books that you won’t want to put down. These books are not a gift list for you to choose from for others. No, these are just for you, for those times when you want to bury your nose in something really good, all alone, with a cozy blanket, a warm beverage, and some soft light. In this list, you’ll find stories, advice, action plans, and philosophies that will help you reconsider… well, just about anything. It’ll be like networking with some of the coolest people we know, right in the comfort of your own home.
We know you’ve been awful busy this year, and may have missed some of the amazing business stories we told. Since we’re counting on you having some nourishing downtime, we’ve wrapped all these stories up in a tidy bow in this year’s final story… about stories. We hope you’ve learned a lot from the very cool people we’re thrilled to work with. We certainly have!
Last and never, ever least, we are excited to introduce you to Nicole, the Project Management Slayer! Nicole has been with us throughout most of this tumultuous year, keeping projects on course and people on task. We know you’ll adore her as much as we do.
We’re looking forward to connecting with you again in January when we are rolling out our 2021 theme (we can’t wait to tell you about it!). Until then, we wish you a deeply restful, enjoyable holiday season, with best wishes from your Admin Slayer team …
