It’s been a wildly busy fall over here at Admin Slayer. That probably means it’s been pretty busy for you as well since you work with us or in an adjacent profession. We hope you’re remembering to stop and take care of yourself as you’re navigating the usual stresses of heavy work, family responsibilities, and upcoming holidays.
Just a reminder: It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
You’ll need to stop for water, a little sunshine, maybe some food or even a nap along the way. Whether it’s dark and rainy or bright and far too cold to go outside, you’ll need to find some time to get out of your own head and your own space, with all the have-to-dos that are taking up room in your brain. If you don’t, you’re going to run out of gas entirely.
We hear a lot about burnout and chronic stress in media and in our social circles. A lot of the blame jumps squarely into the lap of jobs and work and business-building.
But you, we hope, are working on and in a business that you love. For every entrepreneur there are days that feel more than a little overwhelming - days when you wonder to yourself, “Why don’t I just go work for someone else and have the ability to be done at the end of each day?” - so try to remember that you are doing this for some very good reasons.
When asked why they want to be in business for themselves, many entrepreneurs will say that the number one reason is the flexibility and control they have over their own lives, schedules, and purpose.
This month, we want to ask you: Is that what you’re giving yourself?
One problem with being your own boss is that you always know where you are, what you’re doing... and you always know there is more work to be done… and so that’s what you do - work.
Days, nights, weekends. Holidays. Just one more email before you leave for dinner with your family, and maybe check your phone just once or twice while you’re out. Or, since you haven’t had all that many outings lately, and you’re home anyway, why not work … forever?
We thought we’d remind you today why you started doing (vague gesturing) all this to begin with. You have some very specific, very “you” reasons for doing what you do. They’re excellent reasons - and they can be easily forgotten under the absolute avalanche of “doing”... It’s one of the main reasons we created our company - to give you the room to do just that.
Our OG Slayer, Shannon, is a business owner much like you, and she’s sharing her day in the life this month. You’ll note that she takes some time to take care of herself, just like we recommend you do. Maybe you’ll take a page or two from her book!
We’ve also got the almost-last chapter in this year’s theme of recovery ready for your review. It’s a topic that few entrepreneurs love to think through - Risk Management. That’s why we’ve made it dead easy for you with hot tips, tricks, and processes to get you through to the other side so you can start thinking about growth and action all over again.
