Sam joined the Admin Slayer team in January 2021 when she was on the hunt for a job she could do from home and grow within. From the get-go, she impressed us all with her exemplary administrative skills, which have been an enormous asset both internally and with our clients. Sam lives in Alberta where she loves to go on long hikes in the mountains with her husband and their golden retriever (while the kitties stand watch at home). She’s originally from Ontario, but her deep love of mountains brought her closer to the Rockies. When she isn’t at home analyzing and developing our client’s systems and procedures, you can find her at Moraine Lake, which has become her “recharge station”.
With an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sam found that as she explored her career, she enjoyed paperwork and digging deep into the core process of every job she was involved in. She’s worked with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in Ontario, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and was the Co-founding Board Secretary of the Canadian Police Family Alliance in Alberta. Through every position she’s had, both as an employee and a volunteer, she has pulled together and gathered functional processes and systems to curate a portfolio of experience that she can impart to her clients and her co-workers.
Sam’s biggest superpower is her incredible ability to squint her eyes and look deep within both our internal and our clients' methods of operation and see where the lines are not connecting. She can follow the path of a process and smooth out the road to create a streamlined and effective procedure. Then (and this is the real kicker) she can zoom out and look at the big picture: what is missing, what could make this even better, what are we forgetting? Her uncanny ability to see both the forest AND the trees is what makes Sam a superstar.
Another one of her fantastic qualities is her interest and desire to learn more about people and their beliefs. Authenticity and clarity are a couple of her core values.
“To gain clarity you have to be curious and willing to research; I love to gather viewpoints and hear people’s stories. If you can hear their stories, you can understand where their driving factor is coming from.”
Sam dreams of one day owning a big acreage with a barn and some horses. She anticipates staying young and spry by taking care of the property and the horses, and by getting involved with Equine Facilitated Wellness organizations.
